The generator transfer switch

When it comes to the ATS, or automatic generator transfer switch, it's important to know that it plays a central part in the whole power generation process. Without it there wouldn't be a smooth transfer of mechanical to electric power. That's why included in our customer generator service contracts we include a complete test of the generator transfer switch operation.

While the generator is operational the ATS prevents hazardous current feedback into the system. All the power sources are then synchronized before they can be combined and transferred. The ATS can sense when power has been interrupted and if the power doesn't come back on, it will automatically start up the generator. Then, after a power outage, once utilities are restored, the switch then transfers the load back to the utility source. After the ATS disengages the generator, it will usually go through a cool down routine before it completely shuts off.

Don't worry if the whole thing sounds too complicated! Our sales staff will gladly provide you with a generator transfer switch that is easy to operate and monitor- just leave the maintenance to us.
